Monte carlo tennis tournament

Rafael Nadal hadn’t lost a single match at the Monte Carlo Masters tournament for the past 8 years, but that all ended on Sunday when Novak Djokovic defeated him in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6, (1). Djokovic ended an 8 title win streak for Nadal.

The win was only the third time out of 15 matches that Djokovic had ever beaten him on clay.

Monte Carlo was where Nadal got his first Masters title, in 2005, and he had won it every year since. Nadal’s dominance over the tournament had brought fear into anyone wanting to play in it. Fellow pro tennis player, Roger Federer, had skipped it, along with Novak Djokovic in 2011.

Nadal’s well known topsin wasn’t at full force during the match because of the rain that had came down earlier. Nadal’s ball was bouncing right into Djokovic’s strike zone the whole match, which allowed him to swing free and easy, and attack where and when he desired.
