Farewell Lone Oak

Lucas Englert, Staff writer

Over 100 years of storied history is down to its final few weeks. Lone Oak High School will no longer be a school as of May 24th, the day of graduation. So this year not only will it be a farewell for the Seniors, but for all former Purple Flash alumni. I can’t believe high school for my Class of 2013 is over, but on the other hand I’m ready for the next chapter in our lives. It is very sad though that this is the official end of the school I’ve called home for the past 13 years.

Growing up, I went to many ball games, which is where I found a pride in our school that is unlike any other one around here in my opinion. Some of the best examples of our school pride were shown in the basketball team’s run to state in 2005, as well as the football team’s in 2007. That pride for me grew even more when I got to put on the Lone Oak jersey and had the community cheering for me. I still feel that way every time I step out on the baseball field. The baseball and softball team will face a neat circumstance in the next few weeks. We will not only be playing to keep our season alive, but our school along with that. There is nothing more I would like than to bring our school a state championship that will be remembered forever.

All in all it’s time to say goodbye to Lone Oak. But we need to make sure to give it the ending it deserves. Even though this is the end, my Purple Flash Pride will show forever, and I will always bleed Purple and Gold.
