China accused of cyber-spying on the United States

The United States government has been subjected to a cyber attack by Chinese spies. While the United States has suspected the Chinese government being involved in several cyber attacks over the last year, this is the first time that the Pentagon actually accused the Chinese in an official document.

The Chinese have strongly denied any involvement in the cyber attacks, calling the Pentagon’s report ‘groundless’. Sr Col Wang Xinjun described the report as “irresponsible and harmful to the mutual trust between the two countries”.

The Pentagon’s report stated that the attacks focused on gathering information that could potentially be used to benefit China’s defense industry and it’s military planners. The report also touches on China’s mission to modernize its military and makes the conclusion that China’s lack of transparency about its current military capabilities has heightened regional tensions.
