Poetry out loud
For the past three years, Lone Oak High School has participated in a competition for students, called Poetry Out Loud. Students memorize and recite poems in front of their class, and are then chosen to compete against the school. The top five will continue to a district competition, while the top winner at each McCracken County School will continue on to compete in the state competition.
This year, 33 people compete in the Lone Oak High School competition. Poems ranged from 19th century ballads to modern day free-verse poems. The top five winners, in order of placing include: Jazmyne Lilly (12), Hannah Williams (9), Alyssa Durbin (12), Sydney Chambers (12), and Jennifer Roberts (12). These people continued on and competed in the district competition at Maiden Alley.
At Maiden Alley, Heath, Reidland, and Lone Oak all competed for a district competition. The winner of the district competition was Reidland High School Student, Quinn Lambert (11) and the runner up was Sydney Chambers (12) from Lone Oak High School.
