Have you ever wanted your doodles you made in class to come to life, and be three dimensional objects? Well today, this is becoming possible.
WobleWorks has developed the 3Doodler pen, that works just like a handheld 3D printer (yes, those exist too). All you do is plug it in, and as you draw the pen spits out colorful plastic that is cooled by a tiny fan inside the pen. Your creation then solidifies and tada, you have a 3D doodle. A battery power 3Doodler is currently in the process of being developed.
Here’s some of what the pen can do - people can even create jewelry with the 3Doodler!
But, this pen comes with one danger - the heat. While the plastic itself is okay to touch once it has left the pen, the pen itself has a metal tip that can get as hot as 518 degrees Fahrenheit. The website states though, “There is no reason for any user to touch the tip while in use, but safety comes first, and our forthcoming videos will explain how to use the 3Doodler, covering the different techniques and safety precautions necessary.
The company is also in serious consideration of making a 3Doodler that can create candy. “We could in theory use the pen to melt sticks of sugar, but we don’t want to get into food safety issues just yet. We will be running some food tests soon - and we’d have to lwer the temperature in the pen, too.” says company spokesman, Daniel Cowen.
To help raise money for development, WobleWorks began a campaign on Kickstarter. In merely hours, the company exceeded their $30,000 goal.
3Doodler will hit the market later this year at a cost of $75. But, Kickstarter backers could snag the pen for just $50.
