A Special Inauguration

It’s official, Barack Obama has now been sworn into office to begin his second term as President. The swearing in happened at a private ceremony on Sunday morning around 11:00 CST, the time in which the new term specifically begins. The Vice President, Joe Biden was sworn in shortly before the President. Though the true proceedings did happen on Sunday, the day Americans have come to acknowledge as Inauguration Day took place on Monday, which involved the public ceremonies.

This marked the 57th Inauguration Day Ceremony in our country’s history. It is truly amazing how our democracy allows for such a peaceful change in terms and in power at times. This is why Inauguration Day has became such a big deal, as many countries tune into the ceremonies just to see how we do things over here in America. The long day of events began with the President having breakfast with Senate leaders and VP Joe Biden. President Obama then made his way over to the Capitol Building to be sworn in again, this time for everyone to see. The crowd was huge and energetic as the President recited the Oath of Office on the bible of Martin Luther King Jr., and while he delivered a powerful speech on what his goals are during his 2nd term.

The rest of the day saw the famous luncheon at the Capitol take place, followed by a parade as the President made his way back to the White House. Finally, the night ended with a Presidential Ball, allowing the President and Mrs. Obama, (who was sporting a sparkly red dress) a time to relax and enjoy themselves after the long day. This Inauguration Day certainly didn’t disappoint, and after watching it all take place you couldn’t help but be proud to be an American.
