Over the course of six films and thirty years, the science fiction series Star Wars has become a household name. Star Wars is set to receive another three films produced by Disney. Earlier this month Disney purchased Lucasfilm, the company that produced the six main Star Wars films and owns the rights to the Star Wars film name, for $4.05 billion dollars.

George Lucas having directed most of the series will only serve as a creative consultant for Disney. Lucas released a statement explaining why he sold the series earlier this month, "For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next. It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers."

Disney expects to release the first film in 2015 with the subsequent films coming out every two years. Disney also plans to add on to their theme parks with Star Wars themed attractions.
