The BCS madness...again

If the last few weeks of College Football have proved anything, it is that the sport at the end of it’s season is one of the most unpredictable and exciting of them all. With the current BCS standings, as has been the case in many years past, several teams have a shot at the crown. The problem with that is there are few teams that control their own destiny, the others have to hope for crazy scenarios to work out for them to actually have a chance to play in the Championship. Though never say never, because in the past two weeks alone the standings have turned upside down.

At this point two weeks ago we have four undefeated teams, with the Alabama Crimson Tide seemingly ready to run the table and have one spot secured in the title game, leaving Kansas State, Notre Dame, and Oregon the chance to battle it out for the other available spot.  Out of nowhere the Tide fell and their title hopes seemed to vanish with them as well. But as most college football fans know, it wouldn’t be right for the BCS system to have an easy decision as to who should be the two teams in the Championship. Therefore, the next week ,two of the other undefeated went down in Oregon and Kansas State in extremely surprising upsets.

That leaves us to where we are now, with one undefeated team remaining, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Their road is simple; beat USC and they are in the Championship Game. The road to whoever secures the other spot is not as clear, considering there are six one loss teams hoping that they are the one chosen to play presumably Notre Dame. Out of nowhere it seems that of those six teams, Alabama will control their own destiny again, but if they take another loss it looks as if Georgia or Florida will go after the BCS Championship, seeking the sixth straight title from an SEC team. No matter who ends up in the title game, the next two weeks are must see TV. This is reality TV at its best; seven teams laying it all on the line to have a shot at the Championship and that coveted crystal ball.
