Maybe it’s just this way in our state, but to most Kentuckians this is the beginning of the most wonderful time of the year, the start of the college basketball season. This season should be an exciting one for multiple fan bases throughout the state for many reasons. University of Kentucky fans love their basketball as much as any fan base in the country, so the excitement will be there every year. This year there is a new suspense as Kentucky is bringing in many talented newcomers with no experience on the team except Sophomore Forward Kyle Wiltjer. With that being said, there is great belief in the talent on this team, and the thought of repeating as champions is very possible. Then you have the University of Louisville, a team who has almost every key player returning from a Final Four team last year, and the team this year has been tabbed by some as the early Championship favorites. Finally, we must not forget about the local team, the Murray State Racers. The hope around campus is that this team will build off of last year’s historic season with the help of two talented seniors in Ed Daniel and Preseason First Team All American, Isaiah Canaan.

Now it is not as though other teams are not excited about their chances at a title this season as well. A few early Championship favorites who look to be contenders all season are the Indiana Hoosiers (tabbed as Preseason #1), Kansas Jayhawks (last year’s runner up), and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Along with the top teams, the top players announced during Preseason reports were Cody Zeller (Indiana), Doug McDermott (Creighton), DeShaun Thomas (Ohio State), C.J. McCollum (Lehigh), and the before mentioned Isaiah Canaan (Murray State).

This season figures to be another exciting one for various fan bases. Many good match-ups are scheduled all throughout the season for everyone to enjoy. There is no true team that sticks out as the obvious favorite at this point, which could lead to an even more suspenseful time during the one and only March Madness.
