Last month, on the anniversary of the biggest terrorist attack in American history, the U.S. Consulate in Libya was attacked by Muslim protestors. Initial news reports and statements from the White House found a low budget anti-muslim movie to be the antagonizing force that sparked the murders of four Americans. New information suggests that the riot is much more complex.

Since the September 11th, 2012 attack on the United States Consulate  in Benghazi the White House has released several statements that have led to much controversy. There have been varying statements on what caused the attack. The same day as the attack Hillary Clinton stated that “some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet.” Hillary Clinton is referencing a controversial anti-muslim film, “Innocence of Muslims”, that was released over two months before. Two days after Clinton’s first statement she goes on to clearly connecting the “Innocence of Muslims”  video as the cause of the attacks. The “video circulating on the Internet that has led to these protests in a number of countries”. Then Clinton goes on to say that “We’ve seen rage and violence directed at American embassies over an awful internet video that we had nothing to do with.”

The media quickly followed suit and began condemning the low budget film.

But why wait two months after the video has been released to attack? There may be a better explanation for what happened...

While many media sources continued pushing the idea that the low budget film provoked the attacks, many sources are now claiming that protests over the video was simply used as a cover for a pre-planned attack. Days after the attack Hillary Clinton said that the attack was led by a “savage group, not the people of Libya,” recognizing the presence of an organized group.

Shortly after the Benghazi attack rumors circulated that the White House was covering up important facts. Conflicting statements from Washington D.C. have lead to the belief that there may be a governmental cover-up of what really happened in Benghazi. Now, other stories followed about a media cover-up of the White House cover-up.  Susan Rice stated that “this was not a pre-planned, pre-meditated attack” and that “people with extremist ties joined the fray and came with heavy weapons.”
