the race is on

Politics...most teens hate to talk about it but they can’t deny that our presidential race is important. This month marked the time frame for the National Conventions, or in other words the official beginning of the Presidential race.  The GOP held their Convention in Tampa, while the DNC went to Charlotte.

The GOP Convention started things off by officially nominating Mitt Romney as their presidential candidate. The weeklong convention’s main goal was to try and give Romney a more favorable view to Americans. This was after reports that some considered him to be “not human”. Romney’s acceptance speech focused on his family values and down to earth lifestyle, as well as persuading Americans that Obama hasn’t lived up to his promises of four years ago. He pointed out specifics such as “we need more jobs” and “our kids deserve a better future”. Ann Romney (Mitt’s Wife) said it simply, “This is the man America needs.” Other highlights were the speech by Romney’s running mate Paul Ryan, and the quite odd mocking of President Obama by actor Clint Eastwood.

The DNC Convention followed up the next week in Charlotte where President Obama was officially placed on the re-election ticket. The message for the convention was simple “let’s finish what we started together”. Michelle Obama kicked off the week showing insight on her husband, which usually the American people don’t see. On Wednesday the convention received a speech from former President Clinton which included statistical evidence, and reasoning from the past as to why he thought Obama should be re-elected. Finally, it was the President’s turn to speak. The President kept it simple stating “you (referring to the American people) have done all of this work in the past four years and you can either continue moving forward or stop the progress and elect my opponent.”

All in all both conventions spent their week trying to convey the message they  each were trying to get across. Only time will tell how or if the conventions will affect the election on November 6th. Let the race begin....
