In a sport that often goes mistakingly unnoticed, it’s hard to look past what the Lone Oak Golf Team is doing at the start of their season. After a 2nd place finish in the Paducah Tilghman Invitational followed by a win over Marshall County last week the team hopes to keep that momentum going. “Obviously our goal is to go to state, however we understand the challenges that come with that goal,” said senior leader Sean Murphy.
The team gets to continue their run towards a title this week, playing in a tournament at Ballard County Country Club. With one last shot at state this team seems to have what it takes to accomplish their goals, combining young talent such as Avery Edwards (9) together with the veterans Sean Murphy (12) and Zach Roethemeyer (12). The top contenders for the Flash seem to be Graves, Calloway, and Marshall County.
The Lone Oak girls team also strives to achieve success in their final season of existence. Though losing a
couple of key players from last years squad, they have some upperclassmen in Erika Edwards (12), Anita Henson (11) and Ansley Sims (11) that look to
finish Lone Oak Golf out with a perfect ending. We will see if the Flash can build some momentum before heading into regionals, playing in two big
matches this week. The girls regional tournament site is at Murray. The boys will playing at Paxton Park. On the girls side, the course will be
unfamiliar to most teams, giving everybody an equal chance to succeed, whereas the boys have an advantage at Paxton Park, a course where they are
all very familiar with. This leaves an ever better chance that both teams can go out on top in the “Final Chapter”.
