The Lady Flash started out the season with tough competition. The girls soccer team played their first two games of the year at Daviess County. Lone Oak fought hard against Hopkinsville, who last year had 16 wins and only 4 losses. Our girls soccer team also played Rowan County last Saturday. We won the game 3-to-2 against the defending champions of the 21st district. The Lady Flash played a hard game against Tilghman, which ended in a close match with our competition finishing only one goal ahead. The fourth game this season the Lady Flash crushed Reidland, winning 9 to 0, showing that Lone Oak is still the toughest in McCracken County. They continued the season with a third victory last Tuesday in a game against Calloway County. They hope to continue their victories for the rest of the season.
The Lady Flash are certainly setting their sights high this year, their goal is to become district champs and then to win the Regional Championship title. While the Lady Flash have ambitious goals, Ashley Latham (12) believes that “both of these titles are definitely something we can achieve.” Our team played amazingly last year winning 15 out of 22 games. While Lone Oak may have some challenging goals, we certainly have a team strong enough to make it all the way.
The Lady Flash have shown their resilience. This year we’ve already been plagued by injuries. Ashley Latham says “we have many injuries, but nothing that will hold us back”. Injuries range from car crashes (Lauren Prescott) to broken hips (Baylee Blackburn AND Taylor Fondow). Sarah Nicholas has pulled both of her quads, and Kierstyn Stevens lost her two front teeth (don’t worry, they’re back in there now). Not even our team captains can avoid injury; Ashley Latham couldn’t finish last season because of a broken back.
The Lady Flash have an exciting and challenging schedule lined up for the final chapter. Lone Oak soccer has a
promising year, last year the Lady Flash only lost one home game, and this year we have seven more left in the district tournament. There is still
plenty of time to show your support for Lone Oak’s Lady Flash soccer team and to help cheer them all the way to regionals! For up to date stats
