Many in the area are extremely excited for the opening of the new Mexican Restaurant, El Barco. El Barco will be located on Bleich Road, right across the street from K-Mart. While still in rigorous construction, by the first weekend of September El Barco is scheduled to open for business.
Many of our locals are excited and plan to visit El Barco. Nick Shuemaker (11) says that he’s so excited that he is, “Counting down the days to the opening.” Jay Tony (10) and Gage Gregory (10) both plan on eating at the restaurant after football games, due to its convenient location next to the field. Donna Gouloze, bookkeeper of El Barco says that they are preparing for the large crowd of students and parents by having a sufficient, well-trained staff.
While there is great anticipation for El Barco’s opening, Los Amigos will serve as a tough competitor. Los Amigos is a local favorite shown by Erin McIntyre (12) who says she will go to Los Amigos on average, “twice a week.” But, she will still try El Barco. Stephanie Carter, AP Language teacher agrees with Erin. “ I am loyal to Los Amigos, but I will give El Barco a chance to earn my business.”
Of course, some such as Jay Tony (10) whom are planning to eat at El Barco, say that Los Amigos will always be his favorite through thick and thin. On the other hand, Lauren Loony (12) believes El Barco will be better health wise due to Los Amigos’ low score of 66 on their recent health inspection by McCracken County. Because of this, Lauren and Mariana Garrett (11) both believe they will spend more time at El Barco.
I can say for a fact that I will be visiting this restaurant with friends after school and when football games are going on. Its convenient location is perfect for students of LOHS, their families, and many others who live in the area. Donna Goluze says that she gets asked multiple times a day about how El Barco is coming along, and that she is just as excited as our student body to see how the this fabulous restaurant will turn out.
