2013 CID News Letters

The Newsflash on line newspaper went live in 2011 as a more efficient and accessible school newspaper, especially since every student had access to a school issued MacBook. In 2011, the combination of journalism and web design raised hopes of a forward looking school curriculum that paralleled the path laid by news media and web presentation in the 21st century. However, in 2012 doubts began the arise as few articles were actually about school news and more about public interest articles that seemed like journalism class busy work. The web design staggered and wandered from one presentation to another. In 2013, through the year, the Newsflash died a slow death as school news was all but ignored and web presentation went from multiple selections of innovative presentations to a single menu of mostly plain text articles with few graphics. The journalism that was there, was good - but displayed an obvious "short timers" attitude and just get something done. Very disappointing from the exceptional year book design from the annual staff. At best, the whole Newsflash for 2012-2013 would garner an "incomplete" on the grading scale.

We present the 2012-2013 Newsflash here for archival purposes, it is as close to the original as we can port it from the WYSIWYG graphical design tool Webkit. We refrained from correcting or enhancing the numerous shortcomings, but necessarily had to instill some basic consistency from month to month. The content and articles are all word for word, which is the best part of the presentation. Since a site mirror is not as precise as original code, some effects have been simulated. We hope you enjoy what you find. And as last year, the NewsFlash is NOT Mobile responsive.
