Following the St. Louis Cardinals World Series win and star Cardinals player Albert Pujols transferring to the Los Angeles Angels, this 2012 baseball season will be one to keep an eye on. The season had its opening day on Thursday, April 5, with the Red Sox playing at the Tigers, the Braves playing at the Mets, the Phillies playing at the Pirates, the Nationals playing at the Cubs, the Blue Jays playing at the Indians, the Marlins playing at the Reds, and the Dodgers playing at the Padres. This opening day was a bit surprising, given the fact that the notable Red Sox and Cubs lost.

On April 6, the Cardinals kicked off their season impressively at the Brewers home opener, winning 11-5. The next day the Brewers managed to win 6-0, but on April 8, the Cardinals came back with a 9-3 win. For the next three days, the Cardinals faced the Reds winning 7-1, 3-1 and losing 3-4 on April 9, 10, and 11, respectively. On April 13, the Cardinals had their home opener facing the Cubs, losing 9-5. However, the next two days the Cardinals won with scores of 5-1 and 10-3. The Cardinals then played the Reds again, this time at home, winning only one of the games with a 2-1 score. The Reds defeated the Cardinals 11-1 and 6-3. On April 20-22, the Cardinals’ journey to the Pirates paid off with 2 wins, 4-1 and 5-1. The Cardinals lost on April 21, 2-0. The Cardinals then traveled to face the Cubs once again, losing twice, both with scores of 3-2. Next the Cardinals faced the Brewers again, this time at home, with two wins of 13-1 and 7-3, and one loss of 3-2.

The Angels also had their season opener at home on April 6 against the Royals. The Angels only pulled off one win, 5-0. On April 7 and 8, the Royals won 6-3 and 7-3, respectively. The Angels then traveled to the Twins, also only pulling off one win, 5-1. The Twins won 6-5 and 10-5. Next the Angels played the Yankees in New York, with the Yankees winning twice 5-0 and 11-5. The Angels won on April 14, 7-1. On April 16-19, The Angels played four games against the Athletics at home, still only pulling off one win, 6-0. The Athletics then won the next three games 5-3, 6-0, and 4-2. The Angels then faced the Orioles at home, this time winning two of the three games, both with scores of 6-3. They lost 3-2 on April 22. Next the Angels traveled to the Rays, losing all three games 5-0, 3-2, and 4-3. Finally, the Angels played the Indians, losing two games 3-2 and 4-0 and winning one game 3-2.

Perhaps one of the most interesting things to watch this baseball season is how Albert Pujols transitions from the Cardinals to the Angels. Many Cardinals fans felt betrayed by his leaving, after winning the World Series and being with the Cardinals for so long. However, their season so far is proving there is nothing to be bitter about. The Angels aren’t doing so hot and Pujols has gone on a long no homer streak, whereas the Cardinals are doing great. With that said, it will be interesting to see how the rest of this season will turn out.
