The Junior Rotarian for the month of April is Ricky Grewelle!  Junior Rotarians are selected by Lone Oak High School faculty based on academic success and extracurricular involvement.  Grewelle has immersed himself wholly in academics; he has taken a grand total of fourteen AP classes, has achieved an ACT score of 35, was titled a National Merit Finalist and AP Scholar with Distinction, and will graduate as a valedictorian of his class in May.  Mr. Jarvis, assistant principal of LOHS, says:  “Mr. Grewelle was an exemplary student who always brought humor and a deep desire to learn to the classroom every day.”

Ricky has been involved with the LOHS Academic team for five years and competed at nationals for Science Bowl at the end of April.  He has been a member of the Robotics team since it started two years ago.  But Ricky’s academic skill doesn’t stop there:  about once a week, Ricky does research with the UK College of Engineering on the WKCTC campus.  He works with engineering faculty, converting plant oils into biodiesel fuel so that people in third world countries can have fuel for sustainable cars.

Grewelle is also talented in sports:  he has run cross-country and track with LOHS for 5 years, qualifying for state in cross-country for the past 3 years and in track last year for the mile run.  Nikolas Anderson sweetly stated about Ricky:  “I might say that he’s the best Junior Rotarian that LOHS has ever had, second only to last month’s.”

Ricky has impressive credentials to say the least, but what truly makes him remarkable is his humble personality and clever sense of humor.  The LOHS student body voted him Mr. LOHS and Homecoming King for basketball, serving as a testament to his charm.  Ricky has also been put on the waiting list for prestigious schools such as Harvard, Columbia, and Cornell, but wherever he ends up, Ricky will make a sparkling addition to their freshman class.  Ricky says, “At least my excessive partying and drunkenness has not been too detrimental to my academic prospects.”  Congratulations, Ricky Grewelle, for your accomplishments!
