As of game time on May 3rd, Lone Oak High School’s baseball team has played 30 games this season and only lost 6 of those. Many of the losses were a matter of 1 run difference. Catcher Zach Roethemeyer (11) said, ”I think we have progressed through this year, more than we even hoped to, and now we have the feel that we can make it further in the state, maintaining this pace.” The baseball team has more than a small chance of making it to the state tournament but no one is looking past the next game. Coach Potts proclaimed, “My philosophy is very simple: one game at a time.”
Lone Oak baseball has played a tough schedule and beaten solid opponents this season. Winning against Paducah Tilghman 6:3, Reidland 12:2, St. Mary 10:0, with hardly any competition in our district. In our region, LO has defeated Marshall County 10:0, Calloway County 16:6, Mayfield 12:4, and Graves County 4:3. Districts will begin on the 21st of May and regionals will follow on the 28th at Brooks Stadium.
With Sam Goode’s (11) and Colby Griggs’ (11) two home runs, and with Cole Womack (9) and Nick Eggemeyer (10) both hitting one home run this season, the boy’s batting averages are nothing but high. On the strength of 278 hits, 231 runs were scored.
Lone Oak baseball is working extremely hard to finish the season strong and striving to have a good closing to the final chapter of Lone Oak High School in the spring of 2013.
