The race for the GOP’s nomination is heating up. This month on Super Tuesday, citizens in Georgia, Idaho, Massachusetts, North Dakota, Ohio, and five more states came out to vote for the Republican presidential nominee. Super Tuesday is the day on which more states hold their primary elections than any other day of the year.

Mitt Romney seemed to do very well, winning six state primaries. Rick Santorum came in second place, winning three primaries. Following Santorum was Gingrich who won only Georgia. Ron Paul didn’t win any states on Super Tuesday.

On March 6th, Super Tuesday, Romney said “Our campaign is on the move and real change is finally on the way. I stand ready to lead our party and I stand ready to lead our nation to prosperity!”

The GOP’s nominee to run against Barack Obama is yet to be determined, but it’s clear that Romney scored a huge victory early this month. The final primary this month was on March 24th and Rick Santorum was the winner in Louisiana. Many more primaries are to come before the 2012 Republican National Convention to be held on August 27th.

If a clear winner is not determined before the national convention, convention delegates will choose their nominee for president. Currently, Romney holds the most delegates at a little over 500. Following Romney is Santorum with just over 200 and with the least delegates is Paul with about 70. In order to win the nomination, a candidate needs to win a total of 1,144 delegates.
