Lone Oak’s first district game against the number 12 team in the state, Reidland, ended with a 10-4 loss.  The Flash rallied in the bottom half of the first inning with a Jacqueline Roof (10) double, which scored 2, after being down 1-0 in the top half. After the first, however, the offense for the Flash went stagnant.  The Hounds went on a 9-0 run to beat the flash 10-4.

Lone Oak’s softball team is expecting great things this year even though a strong senior class was lost last year, including Tiffany Brown, Ashley Ciallella, Ashley Shever, Chasity McIntyre, Lydia Sawyer, Nichelle Ezell, and Shelbie York.  Usually after losing such a strong senior class, it takes a team a year to rebuild. However, this year’s softball team is capable of getting wins with a few returning starters, including Whitney Aspery (12), Nicole Walker (12) Alex Sohl (12), Sarah Kreuter (11), Amy Sorensen (11) and Payton Dillon (11).

With a current record of 1-2, Lone Oak should have a solid middle infield with Aspery at second base, Roof at shortstop, and Sohl at catcher.  Young pitcher Jenny Chapman (8) takes the mound this year due to former pitcher Stacey Tippin (11) being out indefinitely with injury.  Other young players who are very talented include Willow Aspery (9) and Kelsee Henson (9), who starts in left field.  With such talented young players, the softball team should have some good years to come.

The girls are hoping to take the district this year as well.  Their main competition within the district are Heath and Reidland.  Although Reidland lost their star pitcher, they still field a strong team.  Lone Oak’s victories so far include Calloway County and their losses consist of Christian County and Reidland.

With strong leadership coming from Aspery, Sohl, and Walker, the team is working hard and spending countless hours on the softball field trying to get better each and every day.  Walker is looking forward to her senior year and said, “Our goal for the season is to win games, but ultimately to go to regionals.”  Come out and support your Lone Oak Lady Flash softball team at the next few home games on the 14th against St. Mary, the 17th against Calloway County, the 19th against Paducah Tilghman, and the 20th against Ballard.
