On March 28, 2012, the winners of the third annual All-American Teacher of the Year Awards competition were announced by the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI). Lone Oak High School is proud to announce that its own Stephanie Carter took the title of the Kentucky English All-American Teacher. This distinguished honor recognizes math, science and English teachers who are outstanding in their respective profession. Carter is an exceptional teacher and is regarded highly by her students as well as her fellow teachers and school administrators.

Carter is very involved with the school system in which she works. Not only does she adequately prepare her AP Language students for the test, but she also helps them reach their full writing potential. “Mrs. Carter has mastered the art of communicating with adolescents,” said former AP Language student Jessica Graves (12). “Her expertise, along with her proficiency in dealing with teenagers, allows all of her students, myself included, to fully comprehend the concepts required to ultimately pass the AP test and fulfill our utmost potential.” Her skill in teaching this subject is also evident in the fact she is invited to consult at various AP Student Study Sessions around the state of Kentucky. Fellow teacher Brenda Metzger said, “Mrs Carter is one of the most outstanding teachers I’ve ever had the privilege of working with in all my years of education. She cares about the students and is very professional. She’s an asset to Lone Oak High School.” In addition to teaching AP Language, Carter advises the class that publishes the News Flash.

As an award winner, Carter will receive a cash award and travel to Washington D.C. on May 23, 2012, to be recognized at a special awards dinner. Dr. Mary Ann Rankin, President and CEO of NMSI, spoke of the award winners, “These teachers have demonstrated a total commitment to their students’ academic growth and are truly role models for the other teachers participating in NMSI’s programs. Their efforts continue to drive impressive results by their students and inspire other teachers.” There is no question that Carter has worked very hard and definitely deserves this exceptional award. Congratulations, Stephanie Carter!
