The 4-H organization works diligently all year, offering community service opportunities and developing leadership roles in the community. With the mission statement, “To Make the Best Better,” they have multiple branches of core content to connect with each young adult’s desires including science, citizenship and healthy living. As a 4-H member, they pledge: “4-H, I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living for my club, my community, my country, and my world.” Many students at LOHS are involved in 4-H, including Erin Mcintyre (11), Jessica Graves (12), Emily Fountain (12), Kristen Floyd (12), Ben Caito (11), Lesley Garrett (12) and Emily Followell (12).
Brittany Osborne (12) who is running for state council, states with excitement, “Home: it rolls off the tongue when talking about where a 4-H event is held. To me, the word home is an extension of what 4-H becomes to you when you place your hands, heart, health and head in everything you do.” Erin Mcintyre (11), the secretary for McCracken County and who is also active in equitation during the summer, declares her love for the club: “4-H has taught me so much about leadership skills, and at the same time having lots of fun and meeting many new people.” Lesley Garrett (12) just won Communications Day with a demonstration speech and is moving on to state.
Lone Oak High School’s involvement in the 4-H organization has made McCracken County among the highest ranked attendance level for 4-H throughout the state of Kentucky. Anyone can join the club and will be welcomed into a family of growth and companionship with people striving to be the best they can be. Many students at Lone Oak and around the United States are involved and enjoy the organization and continue to succeed in their competitions and personal goals.
