The Lady Flash drew Graves County for the first round of regionals.  At the end of the first quarter, the score was deadlocked at 6-6.  As the second quarter went on, the Lone Oak student section went crazy as the Flash took a commanding first half lead. The Lady Flash finished the game with a score of 40-50, advancing to the second round of regionals.  The leading scorer for the Flash was Megan Murray (12) with 13 points.  After the win, Murray said, “It was a tough first round win, but I think it gave us the momentum we need for the rest of the tournament.”  Haley Boyd (11) had 11 points along with 7 assists.

The win against Graves set the Lady Flash up for a second round game against Marshall County.  Coach Barnett is excited for the next round, “The Graves game was no doubt a big win for us. It was exciting to see Rachel Englert (12) have such a large role in that win, looking forward to Marshall County. It’s a big challenge and we need to do our best to prepare for Marshall County.”  The game will be on Friday at the CFSB center at 6 o’clock.

When the regular season ended, the Lady Flash had a record of 19 wins and 14 losses, beating Reidland 3 times and Heath 2 times, but losing both games against Tilghman.

The Lady Flash had the 2 seed in the district tournament and beat Reidland with ease while Tilghman girls beat Heath. This set up a Tilghman-Lone Oak championship showdown. The game started out tight with Megan Murray (12) easily beating her defender off the dribble multiple times and scoring most of the team’s points.  Tilghman’s coach decided to change up the game-plan in the huddle after the first quarter and told his players not to go out and guard Murray, but step back a few feet and give her a cushion, making it more difficult for her to drive around her defender and score easy layups. This triggered a rather controversial second half, which consisted of nearly 7 and a half minutes of mere nothingness and about 30 seconds of real play time.  The girls ended up losing the championship game by 14 with a score of 34-48, setting the girls up with a 2 seed entering regional competition.

“It was a tough first round win, but I think it gave us the momentum we need for the rest of the tournament.”
