On January 27th at 6:30, Lone Oak High School students, families, and friends waited to hear Whitney Aspery and Ricky Grewelle announced as Queen and King, respectively. While twelve deserving seniors were chosen to represent their class on the homecoming court, only two would leave with crowns.  Great applause reverberated across the stadium as Aspery and Grewelle walked forward to accept their crowns, flowers, and sashes from last year’s winners Chelesea Brantley and Zane Smithson.

Both humble seniors were honored to be selected. The homecoming queen said, “It made me feel good that I won. I wasn’t expecting to.” Grewelle said, “I am just grateful that my classmates think so highly of me.” Grewelle also made an interesting observation, “I don’t, however, think it a coincidence that all homecoming kings and queens elected this year have been cross-country runners.  Maybe we can continue the streak for prom.”

Other king candidates were  Payton Harris, Cameron Byrd, Felix Colon, and Corey Adams. The senior girls on the homecoming court included Shelby Schaefer, Erin Traughber, Hally Hagan, and Nicki Caturano. The rest of the court consisted of junior attendant Arella Jones and her escort Zach Perry, sophomore attendant Courtney Grewelle escorted by Casey Harbin, and freshman attendant Chynna Neal whose escort was Brady Harris.
