This month’s Junior Rotarian is an outstanding young gentleman both in the classroom and on the football field. Cameron Byrd is an honor student who is involved in an assortment of extra-curricular activities and has gained much respect from the LOHS student body and its faculty.

As far as academics go, Byrd has challenged himself by taking multiple Advanced Placement classes. Counting his current AP European History class, Byrd has taken all the AP History classes offered at Lone Oak. He has also taken both AP English classes. Outside of the classroom, Byrd is a crucial part of the Lone Oak football team’s success over the past four years. Starting varsity his freshman year as a Defensive End, Byrd has always been a dedicated team member. He was also one of the senior captains this past fall and has been honored on the KHSAA Academic All State Second team.

In addition to academics and football, Byrd is also involved in various other activities. He is a member of the Lone Oak First Baptist youth group and Student Code of Conduct Committee as well as the LOHS Math, Beta, and Friends of Rachel clubs. Byrd was elected class vice president his junior and senior years. Chemistry teacher, Timothy Whitley, has this to say about Byrd: “Cameron Byrd is not part of the herd. He has the best attitude and that is no platitude.”
After graduation, Byrd plans to attend college to major in Secondary Education. In the future, he intends to coach football as well.

“Cameron Byrd is not part of the herd. He has the best attitude and that is no platitude.”
