The second half of December and the month of January presented the Lady Flash with some challenging games from both regional teams and teams from around the state. The team went into Christmas break with a solid 4 wins and 2 losses. The Flash played in a Christmas tournament in Mercer County and won, thus improving their record to 7-2.
The three main scorers for Lone Oak are Haley Boyd (11) heading the point, Meagan Murray (12) playing center, and Jacqueline Roof (10) at power forward. The team can be very effective at times but sometimes when hit with pressure struggles to handle it successfully.
On pace to be the number 2 seed in the district, the Flash has beaten Reidland twice, Heath once, and lost to a very strong Paducah Tilghman team once. With a record of 6-6 in the region, the team knows what to expect in the regional tournament and how to change their strategies against certain teams. They must win their first district tournament game to enter the regional tournament, which they are on track to do with ease.
The teams they have played outside of region one include Tates Creek (L), Johnson Central (W), Nelson County (L), Western (W), Lee County (W), North Bullitt (W), and Massac County (W). The team has 2 district games left, one against Heath on February 3 at Lone Oak, and one against Paducah Tilghman on February 10, at Tilghman. Jessica Lawson(11) thinks Tilghman is their toughest competition within the district, “With Chelsea Shumpert back, they are starting to play like a team. We are finally starting to pull things together and should be able to compete better with Tilghman next time.”
Due to publication deadlines, the game on the 27 against Fulton County will not be covered. The district tournament is the week of February 20th and will be held at Tilghman. Senior night will be against Heath on the 3, and the next home game will be against Murray on the 11.
