The Lone Oak boys basketball team has begun its season with signs of a stronger chemistry than has been present in the past few years. Zack McKinney (11) who leads the team with an average of 10.7 points a game, feels confident in this years team, saying, “I feel like we are getting better each day, and we are finally coming together as a team. The chemistry we have found is one I have enjoyed more than my past three years.”

In the past month, the team has seen exciting endings to two different games, with Kam Chumbler (10) banking a three-point shot at the buzzer in each game. In the first game, against Carlisle County, Chumbler’s shot allowed the team to come home with a 59-58 victory. The second game, against Ballard County, ended with a 40-38 win.

Coach Andy Poore agrees that this year’s team is strong. “As we close in on the end of the season, we are continuing to improve and hope to be at our best in the postseason.” This season’s top scorers are: McKinney, with 10.7 points a game, Chumber with 9.6 points a game, Jack Coleman (12) with 8.3 points a game, Lucas Englert (11) with 5.6 points a game, and Jakyron Burnside (11) with 5.4 points a game. As a whole, the team averages about 52 points a game and sits at 11-11.

Though the team has suffered some losses, they have created a season’s worth of excitement. The basketball at LOHS is definitely something to keep your eye on as the season progresses. Everyone’s bracing for the postseason, where the team’s chemistry will truly be put to the test.
