On November 18th, Lone Oak High School held a pep rally to support for the football team as they prepared to compete in a playoff game against Franklin-Simpson. “I think that the students who planned the pep rally helped generate excitement throughout the school. It was awesome to see everyone standing and cheering on the team,” says principal Brian Harper. Even though the football team ended up losing the game that night, there were many smiles at the pep rally, and student participation reached a level not seen since the state final runs of 2007 and 2009.

The rally featured a plethora of new events, such as student races to pie teachers in the face, football moms performing a cheer routine, and the throwing of Tootsie Rolls to students in the stands. All of these activities definitely increased students’ enthusiasm and boosted excitement about the game.

Erika Edwards, a member of the pep team said, “I’m glad the pep rally worked out this time. It seemed to be a great success. I think that having the members of the student body come together was a helping hand in the creation of an exciting atmosphere.”

The success of this pep rally confirms that such events can be useful in raising school spirit. Without a doubt, pep rallies will continue to be utilized for seasons to come.
