The Sports Plex and its fantastic indoor soccer field have provided the teens of Paducah a way to spend time and have healthy fun. With 9 different teams, the boys U18 division is by far the most popular among spectators. DaddyTime, Barons, Red Cards, Victorious Secret FC, the Delivery Boys, Stealth, Generals, Green Hornets, and The Rainbow Surfers all compete for the title of the Sports Plex Boys U18 Indoor Soccer Champion.
Not only is this fun for the spectators, but the players really seem to love it. Payton Harris (12) of The Rainbow Surfers says, “It’s always a lot of fun playing with these guys. I love competing so I really do enjoy the games!” The game is high paced and full of action, adrenaline, and teamwork. The glass walls add excitement and difficulty to the games as do the smaller goals.
LOHS students play on several Sports Plex teams. The Rainbow Surfers is predominantly a LOHS team with Bailey Orr (12), John Scelzi (12), and Logan Hatton (11), among others. Casey Harbin (11) of Lone Oak plays on The Red Cards while Harley Andrews (12) plays for DaddyTime. There are no LOHS students on The Barons or Victorious Secret FC, among other teams.
With about half the season to go, DaddyTime leads the U18 league scoreboard with The Barons in a close second. Since The Rainbow Surfers were kicked out of the league due to profanity and disorderly conduct as of Saturday, November 27th, the Generals now hold last place in the standings.
The rest of the season is lined up like so: Saturday, December 3rd, Victorious Secret FC vs. Generals at 5:20, Generals vs. Stealth at 7:00, and Red Cards vs. DaddyTime at 7:50. Tuesday, December 8th, Victorious Secret FC vs. Barons at 8:00. Saturday, December 10th, Generals vs. Delivery Boys at 5:20, and Red Cards vs. Generals at 6:10. Monday, December 12th, Stealth vs. Barons at 8:00, and Green Hornets vs. Stealth at 8:50. Tuesday, December 13th, Victorious Secret FC vs. Green Hornets at 8:00. Friday, December 16th, Red Cards vs. Barons at 8:50. Sunday, December 18th, Stealth vs. DaddyTime at 2:20. Finally, Monday, December 19th, Green Hornets vs. Red Cards at 8:50.
The Sports Plex U18 season began November 7th and will officially be over with the winner announced by December 26th, however the last game is scheduled for the 19th.
The teams and the Sports Plex appreciate student support so come out and support this amazing sport. Take a date, a family member, go alone, whatever, but get out and get cheer before the season is over.
