With a new head coach, many returning players, and a tough schedule, the upcoming season for the Lady Flash should be nothing short of non-stop excitement. After a 22-9 record last year, the ladies are working in practice for an even better record this year.  Although starters Tiffany Brown, Natalie Tavernaro, and Chelsea Brantley graduated in May, this year’s seniors, Rachel Englert (12), Cydney Moore(12), Michal Clapp (12), and Megan Murray (12) are prepared to lead their talented team.  Cydney Moore expects her team to make it to “State, even though we got a late start, I think we can make it through districts and regionals and compete at the state tournament.”

Not many people know what to expect from the Lady Flash this year, but Coach Barnett and starting point guard Haley Boyd (11) are sure of their team.  Coach Barnett says, “I’ve been real excited about the practices. The girls have been giving a lot of effort and enthusiasm. We have been getting better every day.” Boyd said, “The level of competition will be lower than last year, and we have improved, and the new coach has exceeded expectations thus far.”

Natalie Tavernaro being out for the majority of last season gave Meagan Murray half a seasons worth of varsity experience which will help her and her team this year.  The returning starters are Haley Boyd, Samantha Lawson (11), and Megan Murray, however lots of players are returning who have varsity experience such as Rachel Englert, Michal Clapp, Cydney Moore, and Jessica Lawson (11).  Having had varsity experience, they will know what to expect from other teams throughout the region.

The first game on the 29th against Hickman County will not be covered in this edition due to publication issues.  Come out and support the Lady Flash as they play their first home games on the 2nd (Fulton City), the 9th (Reidland), the 13th (Ballard), and the 15th (Mayfield).  For a full schedule of the Lady Flash basketball season, click the following link: http://scoreboard.12dt.com/scoreboard/khsaa/kygbk11/?id=36375
