Hard work, long practices, and profuse sweat are just a few of the things the Lone Oak High School boy’s basketball team has been experiencing recently as they prepare for the 2011-2012 season.
The Purple Flash has high aspirations for this season and look to redeem themselves from last year’s disappointing season of 3 wins and 22 losses.
Coach Andy Poore began the 2011-2012 season looking to replace key players lost to graduation including Cullen Pope (forward), Gavin Nall (forward), Kyler York (guard), and Conrad Gholson (forward.) However, the Purple Flash has successfully reloaded and seniors Jack Coleman and Mitch Jacobs intend to lead their team through a successful season. “We’re working hard and getting better in practice everyday which should put us in a good position to have a successful season,” said Coleman.
They have only played two scrimmages so far this season and the results weren’t in their favor with both being losses against both Trigg County and Livingston County, but the team continues to work hard and stay optimistic to achieve success. The starting line up currently consists of Mitch Jacobs (12), Jack Coleman (12), Zach Mckinney (11) and Cam Chumbler (10), but it is subject to change as the season progresses. Though they are a smaller team, the players are quick and have good ball handling skills.
To have a successful season the Flash will have to win some tough match-ups including games against Marshall County, Graves County and rival, Paducah Tilghman. The winter promises some thrilling matches against the area teams and with the team’s optimism for what’s ahead and eagerness to get back on the floor, Flash fans can expect to see some exciting basketball. Due to publishing deadlines, the first game will not be covered, but will be in the December issue. On December 6th, the Flash will play St. Mary’s boys on the Viking’s home court at 7:30.
