“...aaaaaand the Cardinals win!!”  In the first 7 game World Series in 9 years, the surprise St. Louis Cardinals defeated the favorite Texas Rangers.

On October 19th, the Cardinals defeated the Texas Rangers 3-2 with Allen Craig hitting the tie breaking home run against the Rangers’ pitcher Alexi Ogando. In game 2, the Rangers narrowly defeated the Cardinals in a 2-1 win on October 20th. The first seven innings saw a tremendous pitchers’ duel between the Rangers’ starter Colby Lewis and Jaime Garcia. The Cardinals took another win in game 3 by defeating the Rangers 16-7. Albert Pujols had the greatest individual hitting performance in the history of the World Series in game 3 with 3 home runs among 5 hits, 6 runs, and 14 total bases.

When October 22nd rolled around the Rangers were ready to go with Derek Holland as their pitcher. They shut the Cardinals down with a 4-0 win. On the 23rd, Mike Napoli hit a go-ahead two-run double in the 8th inning to put the Rangers one game away from their first World Series win. After a day delay due to rain in the St. Louis area, the Cardinals had a different agenda when they came back and won the game 10-9. David Freese, who forced extra innings with his triple, hit a walk-off shot in the 11th to force a game 7.

The Cards proved themselves in the last game, winning 6-2, even with Chris Carpenter pitching on short rest to help dispatch Texas. David Freese earned Fall Classic MVP honors based on his seven RBIs, three doubles and one big homer. He's the fourth Cardinals player to win the MVP award.

Sports guru or not, the close scores and great competition were enough to keep anyone entertained. Congratulations to the Cardinals on their 11th World Series win.
