On Friday, October 28th, LOHS took on Greenwood High School for the right to play another day in the state volleyball tournament.  The Flash won the first game of the best two out of three, 25-22.  The Gators bit back and took the second game convincingly 25-12.  In the final and deciding game, the Flash fought hard to send the final game to overtime before finally losing 26-24.  Jasmine Bennett and Rachel Englert earned First Team All-State honors and Hannah Parker was named Second Team All-State.

The Volleyball team blazed their way to state after earning the titles of District and Regional Champions. The girls played CCA on Thursday, October 19, in Fulton City, winning 25-16 and 25-14. Lone Oak scored 15 points before being scored on. In the first set, the girls had eight kills and two aces.

The team has also accumulated a number of other honorable titles. Rachel Englert (12),  Courtney Brantley (9), and Jasmine Bennett (9) were all chosen for the All-First Region Tournament Team. Englert was also named First Region Player of the Year. Coach Tim Whitis was awarded Region 1 Coach of the Year.

On October 10, the team began District Tournaments at Reidland High School, playing Reidland. They won both sets, with a final score of 2-0. After defeating the opponents on their home court, our team focused their attention on their upcoming competition, Tilghman. They went on to win both sets in that game as well.

The Regional tournament began on October 17. Lone Oak played Graves first, winning 25-6 and 25-14. They then moved on to play Fulton City. After winning both sets, our team moved on to play CCA. Jessica Lawson, 11, comments on their win against CCA, “It’s really exciting that we’re going to state again. Last year, we really relied on all of the seniors. Now, it’s all up to us. Everyone has really stepped up this year, especially the freshman.”

Talent and hard work have brought the team this far. “I’m really proud of the team,” Englert says.
