On October 28th, the administration rewarded students with prizes for zero tardies and no absences this school year by giving them an assortment of prizes, including various sums of money. Through “free throw” competitions and random drawings, Matt Houser and Angie Woods awarded a total of $300 in cash to selected students and gift certificates to Wendy’s and Domino’s for all students. Discount coupons were given away to Tallon Falls and the Parlor. Parker’s Drive-in donated coupons for free cheese sticks.
Lauren Panosh (10) said the prizes filled her with excitement and “made her day.” Maintaining flawless attendance is harder than it looks, and Cameron Byrd (12) owes his lack of tardies to his parents for waking him up on time every morning. Byrd says, “I’m glad that I’m a child who hasn’t been left behind.” Curtis Buell’s (11) secret to perfect attendance is “High self esteem and lots of orange juice.”
The attendance celebration is an extension of the KyCID program that encourages good behavior by teaching the school expectations and rewarding students who meet and exceed those. Other elements of this program include the “Golden Ticket” and “Shout Outs.”
