Anyone who knows anything about Lone Oak Football knew that the game on the 21st would be a showdown between Lone Oak and Madisonville.  The game did not disappoint. Lone Oak scored first with a field goal by Parker Throgmorton (12) in the first quarter.  Madisonville was quick to respond with a field goal to match and a touchdown and extra point to put them up by 7.  Lone Oak’s offense struggled early in the game, but the coaches made the necessary adjustments, allowing Jared Hill (12) to score a touchdown and give Throgmorton a chance to kick a field goal.  He nailed the field goal, giving Lone Oak the 13-10 win.  When asked if he was nervous about kicking the game winning field goal, he replied, “No, it was pretty close range, so I knew I could make it.  It was just a matter of doing my job.”

Although the game on October 14th was not much of a statement game, the Flash handily beat Hopkins Central with a score of 56-6.  The first touchdown by Lone Oak was scored 47 seconds into the game. Scoring 49 points in the first half enabled the younger players to get some varsity experience which will help ensure the future of program.  Lone Oak had 378 offensive yards and allowed only 121 yards.  Cole Ousley (10) completed 20 of his 25 passes and threw for a total of 279 yards.  Rasheed Jones (9) had a breakout game with 55 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The game against Madisonville secured home field advantage throughout the playoffs.  The only game they could play that wouldn’t be at home would be in the class 4A state championship, which will be held in Bowling Green the first weekend in December.  The first game in the playoffs will be against Breckinridge County who had a record of 1 win and 8 losses.  They are the fourth seed in the district.

When asked if the team is where he thought they would be at this point in the season, Zach Perry (11) replied, “I really do. We have come a long way since our first game. That game really didn’t do our team justice.”  The Flash has gotten better throughout the season and it shows every Friday night.

On the 28th, the Flash will play Heath who are expected to be of little threat to the Flash’s 7-2 record.  The game will not be covered in this issue due to publication deadlines.

“We have come a long way since our first game.”
