Consignment Offers Style for a Steal

Consignment stores have gained prominence in recent years due to the country’s economic decline. They offer second-hand items, in nearly new condition, at unbeatable prices.

The concepts of consignment are simple. The seller or consignor must bring their undesired items to the store to be appraised. After this appraisal, the buyer or consignee determines which items are deserving of sale. The price set on items are usually from 1/3 to 1/4 of the price originally paid for each item. When the items are sold, buyer and seller each receive a fraction of this, usually being a 60/40 split, the seller typically receiving the lesser of the two. Lori Durbin says, “I have always loved taking my family’s clothes to consignment stores. We’re able to share things that we have enjoyed and make a little money in the process.”

Merchandise of all types can be found in consignment shops, anything from clothes and books to furniture and appliances. Four Seasons Upscale Consignment on Clarks River Road offers various brand names including American Eagle, Talbots, Old Navy, Armani Exchange, Hollister and Ethan Allen. The price of these items may blow you away. Hunter Gurrola (12) claims, “The prices are a lot more reasonable than retail, although most of the clothing are like new. You can also find vintage clothing that is no longer sold in stores.”

There are countless other consignment stores in our area that offer the same features as Four Seasons Upscale Consignment. One may be around the corner. Most stores are alike in many ways, but none offer the same items. Each store is something to be explored and has something about it that makes it individual.
