Lone Oak boys soccer has had quite a year. The seemingly average 11-10 record was enough to get them into the district championship game. Beating Tilghman 3-1 in their first match sent the LO boys to take on Heath for the title. LO lost by one point but the boys played their hearts out. Carlos Gonzalez (11) had the only LO goal, and while the defense was strong throughout the game, they could not keep Heath from scoring one too many goals. As district runner-up, the Flash advanced to the regional championship.
In the first round of the regional championship, the boys defeated the Graves County Eagles by one goal, with the final being 2-1. Corey Adams (12) scored one and assisted another scored by John Harris (10) which sent them on to challenge Heath one last time in the regional championship game. Prior to the game, Parker Throgmorton (12), captain of the Lone Oak boys soccer team said, “I think if we come out and play hard from the beginning and play as we have been, we will be fine.” In the Heath game, the boys played very well defensively, and held Heath strong, letting no goals cross the line in the second half. Though, they didn’t do enough to defeat them, they walked off the field with their heads held high. The final score was 0-3
A select few made all district and all region teams, the boys for all district are: Craig Green, Parker Throgmorton, Corey Adams, Colin Marshall, and Harley Andrews. All region members are Harley Andrews on second team and honorable mention for Paxton Harned (11), Craig Green (12), Colin Marshall (11), and Corey Adams. These boys worked extremely hard this year and continued to excel until the bitter end.
Although, they didn’t pull out a win in the final game of their season, next year’s team has much to look forward to, and the seniors had a good season in which to say farewell. Colin Marshall (11) said, “ It was a great season with our new head coach, Greg Hunter. I dedicate this season to the seniors; I love you guys.”
