In the Quad State Invitational, which consisted of 29 teams from bordering states, the Lone Oak Volleyball team showed their true colors and didn’t mess around. The girls went undefeated into the gold round championship match in which they played St. Agnus out of Memphis, Tennessee. The squad lost the first set, won the second, and lost the third. They finished as the second best team in the tournament.
Whether or not the volleyball team is ready for the end of the year playoffs is not open for debate. When you consider how many games they have played, how many hours of hard practice they have put in, weekends they have given up to play in top tournaments around the state, and sweat they have left on the court, it’s easy to say they are as ready as they will ever be. Having competed in elite tournaments against teams like Tates Creek, Lafayette, and Henry Clay (ranked 3rd in the state at the time) has challenged the team to become stronger and better. According to Jessica Lawson (11), the best team the squad has beaten thus far is Greenwood High School.
Starting the year ranked 10th in the state, the volleyball team has played every other competing team’s best line up. According to Lawson, “Hannah Parker (9) has really stepped up. She is a freshman with a lot of pressure on her. She starts varsity and a lot is expected of her. She doesn’t crumple when under pressure.”
Entering tournament time, the volleyball team is undefeated in the district and region, and contemplating a regional title repeat. Parker said, “I hope we can make it back to state. We can do it if we focus.” LOHS students are encouraged to support the team as districts start on October 10 at Reidland.
