On Monday, September the 19th, Charlie Sheen got what was coming to him from comedians Seth MacFarlane, Jon Lovitz, and Jeffrey Ross, and other celebrities. Mike Tyson even attended the event that was intended to mock, insult, and humiliate Sheen.
Almost poetically, the Roast took place shortly after the season premiere of Two and a Half Men, in which Sheen’s character was killed off. Most of the jokes were aimed at Sheen’s history of drug abuse and poor lifestyle choices. One of the harsher jokes told by Ross was aimed at Sheen’s relationship with his family, saying “If you’re winning (then) this must not be a child custody hearing. Because the only time your kids get to see you is in reruns!”
Sheen seemed to laugh at himself along with the rest of the audience which suggest he is comfortable in his own skin and with his criminal, offensive, and dangerous life. Most recently, Charlie Sheen was fired from his job on Two and a Half Men and soon after started flooding the web with weird messages that nobody really understood. Winning, anyone? This episode was only one of a long list of troubled behaviors Sheen has exhibited and was fodder for the comedians’ roast. The motivation behind his antics are debatable. Sheen’s true character may never been known. Is his crazy demeanor just an act? Or does he need serious psychiatric help? One thing that is certain is that he is entertainingly humorous.
At the end of the show, Sheen stood at the podium to say, “I’m done with ‘the winning’ because I’ve already won. This roast may be over, but I’m Charlie Sheen---and in here (gesturing to his heart) burns an eternal fire. I just have to keep it away from a crack pipe.”
