Emily Fountain has been chosen as the Junior Rotarian for the month of September. Fountain is a star student, maintaining a high GPA of 3.9 throughout her high school career. This is a great accomplishment, considering she took several AP classes her sophomore and junior years and is currently taking four AP classes in her senior year: AP Calculus, AP Psychology, AP Literature and Composition, and AP Biology.
Despite her heavy academic workload, Fountain still has time to participate in extracurricular activities at school. She has been a varsity cheerleader for the past three years and was a junior varsity cheerleader her freshman year. She is a member of the Beta Club and has been a member of the Biology Club and Friends of Rachel Club in past years.
Outside of school and extracurriculars, Fountain manages to be actively involved in the community. She has been a member of Heartland Worship Center for 2 years and takes advantage of the many opportunities given by her church youth group to volunteer and get involved with the community. One of these opportunities is called Jumpstart. This is a day when Heartland hosts underprivileged families and provides games for the kids. Each volunteer is also assigned a family to “take care” of for the day which includes purchasing clothes and supplies for them. The fact that Fountain would devote an entire Saturday to participating in this event shows her devotion to service.
The teachers who have had Fountain in class throughout her high school career have nothing but good things to say about her. Timothy Whitley poetically states, “Emily Fountain is a mountain of knowledge and good manners.” He obviously thinks she is a superb choice for this month’s Junior Rotarian.
