Reigning Regional Champions Out for Another Title

The season following a regional title is always tough, especially when everyone is out to get you. This is what the Lone Oak Volleyball team faces this year.

Having lost a large senior class including Audrey Midkiff, Madi Parker, Chelsea Brantley, Shannon Bowman, Natalie Tavernaro and Ruth Wooten, the expectations for LOHS volleyball might be low but that is not the case for the 2011 version of the team. Tessa Throgmorton (9) says Rachel Englert (12) and Michal Clapp (12) are already filling the void on the court and off. Other players who will replace some of the seniors last year include "up and coming talented freshmen such as Hannah Parker (9) and Jasmine Bennett (9)" who are starting.

What should students expect for this season? "Regional champions, then the big show," says Throgmorton.

The team recently came in third place in the Bluegrass Invitational in Lexington, winning 4 games and losing 3, and beat Tilghman on the 25th. Hannah Parker is setting this year, replacing Audrey Midkiff. Bennett led the team in kills to lead the Flash to a victory in 2 sets with scores of 25-9; 25-18.

When asked to describe the volleyball team using only three words, Throgmorton enthusiastically replied, "Sparkle. Shine. Slam." LOHS students can support the volleyball girls at their three September home games on the 19th against Heath, the 27th against CCA, and the 29th against Tilghman.

"Regional champions, then the big show."
