The Libyan situation has faced a new turning point with the arrest of Muammar Gaddafi's son, Al-Saadi al-Gaddafi. This makes the third son of Gaddafi to be arrested, and the rebels have high hopes that the war will soon be over. Currently, the rebels are fighting at the Bab al-Azizia compound, a military barracks and compound, situated in the capital of Libya. The compound, which was the main base for Gaddafi until he fled, has been under fire since August 23rd.
NPR reported that the rebels say Gadaffi's reign is over, though the war won't truly be over until Gadaffi is captured. However, some citizens of Libya remain loyal to Gadaffi. A video of Libyan news anchor Hala Misrati shows the anchor wielding a gun and saying, "You will not take al-Libiyah channel. You won't take Jamahiriyah channel, Shababiyah channel, Tripoli or all of Libya, and even those without a weapon are willing to be a shield in order to protect their colleagues at this channel. We are willing to become martyrs."
This raises the question of whether the end of the war is actually in sight and illustrates how dedicated to the cause both sides are. It's hard to know who the enemy is when the they are dressed like everyone else in the street. With even the newscasters coming to Gadaffi's defense, fighting will likely continue in the coming months and until Gaddafi is finally captured.
