Flash Takes Field for Yet Another Exciting Season

Lone Oak Football's recent game against Hopkinsville was a good win for the fans, players, and coaches. "It was just good to see everybody play up to their potential. I think Lone Oak Football is back. We limited our mistakes and every week will be better and better," said middle linebacker and perhaps most frightening Lone Oak football player Payton Harris (12). The Flash started strong with a 65 yard pass to Derek Collier (11) to start the game. The game was almost set out of reach with a 35-0 lead at the half. The defense showed their colors only allowing a total of 124 yards and one touchdown that came at the end of the game. The game resulted in a 49-7 victory and a quality win for Lone Oak.

The opening game against Paducah Tilghman was heartbreaking for all Lone Oak football fans. What was expected to be a close nail-biter between two solid teams ended up a blow out. The first quarter was the only part of the game in which the score was close, thanks to kicker Parker Throgmorton (12). The offense struggled to find success after the loss of two of their starters. The final buzzer brought a welcome close to the 45-3 loss for the Flash.

In the past decade, Lone Oak football has become a source of pride for the LO community, but what is in store for fans this year? The team lost a strong senior class which included Jack Coorts, Jay Cain, and Davonte Wilson. However, according to Harris, leadership will come from "Seniors, baby! Cameron Byrd (12), Parker Throgmorton, myself, Jared Hill (12) and some younger junior leaders such as Bryce Wright (11)." With schedules that have only gotten tougher over the years, the most difficult competition this season will probably be regional competition in "Madisonville, Christian County and Owensboro," says Harris.

Cole Ousley (10), who started his freshman year and is returning this year to start for his second season, said "I feel very good and am confident that this year we're going to go further than last season." Ousley believes the team will advance further because the 2011 lineup is "More experience and stronger. The only thing that could slow us down is ourselves." However, with two key players missing from the line-up, it will be interesting to see how they handle adversity. The next two games will be at home against Marshall County and then Christian county, followed by two games away at Reidland and then Calloway County.
