We have seven of the reported nine issues published for this year. All of these came from the LOHS Journalism Department archives. For sure, we are missing a November issue; #3. The late May Senior Edition is listed as number 8, so there may not have been 9 issues this year.

The 1988-89 volume had problems! The newsprint small "magazine" format continued, but for some reason this year was an exceptionally "dirty" printing. We had to wash our hands and clean the equipment after each issue, and even 20+ years after printing the ink was subject to smiring. Through the year another problem grew increasingly notable; that of letters missing their bottom half. This was not just one or two papers, but was repeated in all copies that we had - and in some cases the archive folder had 10 or more copies. While digital arts can do amazing things, no matter what incantation we tried, we just couldn't conjour up the invisible ink. So while most articles are readible, some require a little imagination.

Apparently, we weren't the first to notice this problem as in April the format changed from newsprint to plain paper in an odd 10"x13" size, then in May to a standard folded "B" (11x17) size which made each page letter size. These papers was cleaner, type crisper and contrast higher for pictures. This format held for several years to follow.

Enjoy your trip down memory lane with these issues of the LOHS newspaper.
