Oak-K Newspapers from the 1977-1978 School Year may be found via the menu to the right all presented in PDF format for viewing or download. For this school year we have all eight published issues, thanks to the LOHS Journalism Department. Only eight issues this year because the May issue, at 24 pages, is twice the average size and quite possibly the largest Oak-K ever.

The annual discussion of what to do with year ending events seems to have resulted in the extra large May Oak-K issue as it contains such things as Senior wills and Spring sports. Smart move-just hope everyone kept their Oak-Ks, otherwise reunions may be lacking in joke material.

This year the Oak-K was awarded the Blue Banner Award for excellence from the Southern Illinois School Press Association. The SISPA helps student journalists and advisers through the support of the SIU Carbondale’s School of Journalism. The organization offers support, critique services, workshops, and much more to high schools and junior highs in Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri and Indiana. The award was quite an achievement for the Oak-K Staff and the school.
