1965 Other Publications and Memories

We are oftem amazed at the number of publications generated during any given school year. Most of us at the time considered them "throw away" once the event passes, the information contained within was commonplace at the moment. A few people, you know who you are, always keep everything - and to you we say: THANK YOU! As now, many years hence, every clue to the picture helps to bring those memories and the details in focus. These are some of those many publications that marked the Class of 65. The publications are present in date order, all taking place in the last six weeks of the 1965 school year - it was a busy month. All of these came from several members of the Class of 65 leading up to their 50th reunion in 2015.

Junior Senior Play 1965

"The Man Who Came to Dinner" is a drama described as "a comedy in three acts." Students from both the Junior and Senior classes were involved on somewhat of a volunteer basis. These events tooks weeks to prepare for, were a lot of work and a lot of fun. For those who were involved, which included almost 50 from the junior and senior classes and faculty, the first act was set design and building. Act 2 was the seemingly endless rehearsals, fortunately prior to taped out takes. The final act was performances in both daytime for the whole school and night time for the public. It was a comedy play on purpose; laughs were expected, planned or otherwise.

Senior Tea 1965

The Senior Tea was an event organized by the McCracken County PTA (Parent Teachers Association), hosted by different schools each year. This year at Reidland High School Auditorium.

Banquet and Prom 1965

"Some Enchanted Evening" began in the Lone Oak Gymnasium with dinner and program and then moved to the J.C. Civic Center, a typical McCracken County School chaperoned dinner and dance overseen by faculty and administration. But… it is worthy to note that many of the faculty had as much fun… or more, as the students.

Senior Play 1965

"Arsenic and Old Lace," a classic mystery drama, presented totally by the Class of 65 closely on the heels of the Junior-Senior play. Often the stage was still set and just needed painting and decorating. pressured by the schedule.

Class Night 1965

"Arsenic and Old Lace," a classic mystery drama, presented totally by the Class of 65 closely on the heels of the Junior-Senior play. Often the stage was still set and just needed painting and decorating. pressured by the schedule.

Baccalaureate 1965

You can "receive a baccalaureate," a degree, or you can "attend a baccalaureate," an event. For these students, it means you are attending a ceremony celebrating graduating seniors. Traditionally, a baccalaureate was a religious service held the Sunday before graduation, but that doesn't necessarily hold true in recent years. For many of us, it was another chance to dress in caps and gowns and look important.

Commencement 1965

The Commencement Program is often what you doodled on during an otherwise long, boring and procedural process. Luckily, we have one without doodles. Ok, we exaggerate… Commencement was the exciting culmination of many years of hard work, a moment of pride for parents, accomplishment for teachers and relief for administrators. The program is also a good reminder of events, as few of us, except for getting that diploma, actually remember what was done.
