Lone Oak High School
Class of 1953 Collection

1953 Newspapers

Oak-K Newspapers from the 1952-1953 School Year may be found via the menu to the right. These newspapers were provided by the Journalism Department at LOHS as part of the archives found at the school. We are very pleased to have these and many other copies of this historic school newspaper. For 1953, we have 5 copies which is probably short 3 issues; 2 from the Fall of 52 and the final May issue. If anyone has these, we would very much appreciate the opportunity to add them to the collection. 1953 is listed as Volume 12, which is in sequence from 1941, but the issue numbers apparently continued from 1952 and range from 7 through 11 instead of starting over. The five issues shown above are in sequence from issue number 7 through 11.

Reading these newspapers are like a trip through history. Not only did the Oak-K staff provide student and school news, they also include community and McCracken County. We read about the growth of the county, expansion of the school, enrollment and the faculty. We also read about the politics, taxes and the costs of providing good education.

Indeed, change the dates and the names and these could be newspapers from any era.
