1947 Other Publications and Memories
This page holds a collection of programs and publications from various events familiar to the Class of 47, and for that matter other LOHS Alumni. We hope all enjoy this trip down memory lane.
This is a Paducah Sun Democrat news article written by Bill Powell, a well known reporter to Lone Oak and the Paducah community, from February 9, 1947. It features comments from numerous 1947 Seniors and other students. Unfortunately, the context of the article is as appropriate now as it was then.
A lot of work, but also a lot of fun, whether you were a member of the cast, stage crew, props, sound and/or music team. The Junior play was usually presented in the fall, the Senior class play in the Spring of each year. This year was no different and we have a few items to remember it by.
Included in Clara Grimmett's memories was a 'Memories' booklet from the 1947 Junior-Senior Banquet.
Held by the Junior class each class year, this was a formal dressed dinner event usually held at an off campus location, this year at the Hotel Ritz. The 'Memories' book includes the program, participants, menu and a complete list of the Junior and Senior class for the 1947 school year.
An annual tradition, the progam for the 1947 Baccalareate service is show below. As much a community celebration as a school graduation event, almost every church in the Lone Oak community is represented.
Oh the memories that came out of Class Night! An annual "Roasting" of the Senior class by the Senior class. A time of celebration, comedy, recognition, awards and of courese, the presenting of personal gifts for each class member. Class Night was lost in the later years, but never forgotten by anyone who had a part in it.
We are not sure where this little ditty fits in the programs, most likely during Class Night. Obviously a song composed by who knows whom set to favorite tunes of the day, it is quite funny when you put it to the tunes listed. Give it a try, and try not to laugh.
The work is done. All grades are complete. The fun has been had and now it is time to get serious. The last event of the year, because most seniors will never darken the school again, is of course graduation. The 1947 Lone Oak High School Commencement Exercise is show below.
