1947 Newspapers
Thanks to a renewed effort to build alumni memorabillia, we now have all ten of the Oak-K newspapers published in 46-47 school year. All were in exceptional condition. Many thanks to Kim Helfer Tate, '77 and Jessica Richards Hoskins, '06 for allowing us assess to these memories and many other.
These 1946-47 issues are shown as Volume 5, which continue to indicate two years during the war that Oak-Ks were not produced. While still not in line with later years, it is closer. Regardless of record keeping, the newspapers continue the story of Lone Oak High School.
The 1st issue of the year announce the arrival of a new Principle; one John Robinson. The war is still having an effect as veterans return to complete their education, while others join the services. There is obviously a deep sense of community conveyed with many stories, as has been true from the very first newspaper found in this project. Later issues in the year convey the extreme over crowding of the school during those years and the beginning of a building program to expand the school.
We hope you enjoy this dive into the school and community history and the many exceptional alumni who grew to become community leaders in following years.
