About This Site
At the end of the 1944-45 school year, on May 8, 1945, on what became known as VE day, Germany unconditionally surrendered to the allied forces marking the end of the war in Europe. Three months later, President Truman announced the unconditional surrender of Japan, and the Japanese Emperor broadcast the surrender to the Japanese people marking August 15, 1945 as VJ day. Fighting was over, but it would take quite some time for the world to reach a new normal.
From an archival standpoint, we have little to show for the 1944-45 school year. Indications are that no yearbook or newspapers were published nor have we found any of the usual programs documenting year end activities. Through the years of the Lone Oak High School Archival project, it has been amazing what alumni find in their closets, perhaps their parent's or grandparent's estates, or on the shelf at some yardsale, and we are hoping some day, some one will find something we can add to document the history and the memories from the Class of 1945.
If you have some information that is applicable to the Class of 45, please e-mail the site Webmaster. Please provide contact information so that we may reply.
